My boyfriend's white shirt

I've always loved borrowing from the men.  I like the ease the look gives off and I also love the comfort of something not too clingy.  I often find myself gravitating toward men's jackets because of the fit and I've purchased a few men's items for my closet.  But you know what's even better?  Borrowing from the man in your life.  Cause it's free! AND there's something comforting about having something on that can remind me of him when I'm not with him.  A little creepy? Maybe.  Totally awesome?  Hell yeah!

This shirt of Collin's is Paper Denim and Cloth.  I was feeling sick of all my shirts and stole this one and threw on my jeans from ASOS and my Johnston & Murphy Sandals.  Topped it off with some J. Crew earrings.  Which by the way, J.Crew has some of the best party jewelry and I love catching their sales because you can get alot of it for very reasonable prices.

I'm obsessed with my new sandals from Ballin's in Baton Rouge.  It was a bit of a splurge for me but they are light as a feather and so comfortable! I think they are a good investment and I will wear them to pieces in the coming months.  Also, if I didn't include a picture of Jackson in a blog post would it even be worth it?  Shop items below: Shirt: PaperDenim&Cloth Jeans are Asos Shoes are Johnston & Murphy Earrings are J.Crew and they are out of the white but they have red which is pretty freakin' cool

Well Hello There...Life Lately

Has it been five months?  I'm not good at journaling and apparently not very good at this blogging thing either. Life and my other hobbies have gotten in the way.  Not that I'm off knitting blankets or anything but I forget about this blog here and why I started it in the first place.  Which was to document and communicate with people I do not see often or don't know...hmm weird.   I think I will just dive right in to what I have been up to lately.  Since my last post I have actually started a new job.  I don't particularly want to go into work life on my blog because I want to keep the two things separate.  I am a social worker after all and we need to distance ourselves from our work as much as possible when we are not actually working.  Plus, confidentiality is very important.  Not to say I don't expand my knowledge by reading etc but anywho.  Yeah, I started a new job and I will say it was a good change, I needed it and I felt called to do it so I went for it.   My sister got married.  MY SISTER ELLEN GOT MARRIED.  To her dearest love Alex and it was such a lovely day, it could not have been better.  It was below freezing which is abnormal for South Louisiana but it made for the perfect hashtag #farrozen.  Farr, being my sister's new married name ;)  It made the day and evening that much more memorable.  Everyone danced the whole time and it was quite warm underneath the tent with the heaters and well, humans.

Isn't she gorgeous?? This was the dress she changed into for the reception.  She wore my mother's wedding dress which was originally my grandmother's and her grandmother made it!  How special.

I was her maid of honor and was elated to carry that very important responsibility.  I have to say, one of the highlights of being her maid of honor was planning her bachelorette trip...we went to Nashville with some of the bridesmaids (including our stepsister Rachel) and her closest friends.  We stayed in what felt like the most private loft in downtown Nashville.  Our uber driver could not find it and it took us about 20 minutes to find it after being dropped off nearby.  It was lovely! We relaxed, went out and danced and truly had the time of our lives.

Collin got a new dog.  It's a long story but his friend from back home was not able to keep her beloved German Shepherd, Rusko, due to her other dog and Rusko not getting along very well.  Collin had spent much time with Rusko back in his Omaha days.  He had taken her camping and hiking and pretty much knew he needed to take her once we saw she was being placed for doggy adoption.  We love her (including Jackson). I also started this thing called Whole30.  I'm sure some of you have heard of it while others maybe not.  The purpose of Whole30 is to take out specified foods from your diet for 30 WHOLE DAYS (that's how I felt anyway) that could be having a negative impact on your overall health (mental, physical, gut etc).  You do away with added sugar, grains of all kinds (even corn stuff), dairy, legumes (even chick peas which means hummus), and alcohol (bites fist) for 30 days. At the end of the 30 days you are SUPPOSED to re-integrate these foods back into your diet one by one (give each food group a day) and then go back to Whole30 for two days to see how your body/mind/gut reacts.  Disclaimer:  This is not endorsed by Whole30 nor am I an expert on the matter so take what I say with a grain of salt (which you can have on whole30) and go read about it for yourself if you are interested :) I am currently on day 25.  5 more days!! And you may have noticed how I said you are SUPPOSED to re-integrate the foods you've done without slowly but surely.  Well, I'm going to try but I may not do it perfectly.  My main focus is to continue buying Whole30 approved groceries for during the week and allowing myself to indulge (smartly of course) on the weekends.  Although, I will probably have wine with my dinner during the week.  If anything, this journey has changed the way I read labels and it has changed how I think about food and what it is doing for my body.  I definitely plan to enjoy my favorite things again but hopefully in a more controlled way.  Since I'm not done I will do a post later on the whole journey and also talk about how I feel after.  I wish I had photos of the meals I've cooked but I don't...whoops.   Here is a picture of Jackson instead.

Collin and I quite enjoy going to Estate Sales and we usually try to make it to one each weekend.  I love vintage glasses and I have to stop myself from purchasing some at every single one we go to.  I refrained at this particular Estate Sale but aren't those green stems to die for?

Isn't this little guy cool?  Collin has a thing about knives...he likes them.  I'm not sure if it's because he likes to work with his hands or if he enjoys the craftsmanship.  Probably both.  Needless to say, he bought it.

Phew, and there is that.  A little peak into what I've been up to.

Dog Park Tuesday's

We are fans of the dog park.  You could call us frequenters.  It's a weekly affair (if we're being honest we go more than that most weeks...or at least Collin does).  There is something to be said about the entertainment dogs can provide us.  When Collin and I go we are so entertained by the animal shenanigans.  It's fun to think what it is these dogs could possibly be thinking.  We sit there and make up dialogues and crack ourselves up...are you running away freaked out yet?  We're nerdy like that.   Jackson loves the park so much.  When we get there he is so ready we just let him run straight to the gate.  It is the one place we don't need to walk him on a leash to because he will go straight where is supposed to be.  He sits upright and stares in while he waits patiently to be let in.  He is very well-behaved at these moments.  It is something for us to revel in.  Once in, he storms in like a tornado picking up dirt and gathering speed at every sight of a new dog.  He tends to steal toys and promenade around showing off.  But he is also a fairly good sharer ;).  As you can see from the photos above he loves to catch the ball.  These pictures don't do his "ups" justice.  He has been trying really hard to get to this point so I didn't want to short him.

My very pensive whistling man.  It was actually hot as hades out so I'm not sure if he was being pensive or was just hot and tired but it sounded good :)

There is something about a dog with his tongue out.  I think I like it because you know a dog has just had the best time when they have that tongue stuck out grin.

A fine chicky weekend

Hey, blog.  Nice to make your acquaintance again.  To make a long story short, I started my new job and hit the ground running.  I didn't give myself the time to blog between work, my time spent with family, my friends, and Collin.  Not to mention my little neck of the woods and some surrounding areas have been affected by a disastrous flood so I've been doing what I can to help out there while also feeling like I'm not really doing enough.  It has been STRESSFUL I tell you.  Starting a new job is an exciting time and it feels like a right of passage into adulthood. However, it has also been an adjustment and something that has sent my anxiety a little bit upward for the time being.  Needless to say, I'm happy to be off today and finally settling down to write a blog post.

I am dedicating this post to something really awesome that happened a few weeks back.  A few (ehem almost all) of my friends and myself went to Houston, Texas to attend a Dixie Chicks concert and it may go down as one of the funnest weekends of my life.

We all bought our tickets for this concert well in advance.  So far in advance, in fact, that most of us forgot we had bought them in the first place.  Ok, that is a little dramatic but you get where I'm going with it.  It was a really special weekend because it is rare that this many of us can commit to a fun event together.  The only thing that could have made it better was if our two other dear friends, who could not make it, were there (you can see one of their cut-out faces on the coffee table, they had to be in some pictures).   We all hit the road the day before the concert to stay the night with our friend, whom we call Bitty, to have a girls night out on the town.  We ended up at a swing dance bar and had THE best time.  Nothing like a bunch of girls singing their hearts out together, right?  We were probably annoying some people but we were having too much fun to notice and that's what I love about it.

On the day of the concert we headed to my friend Laura's Aunt's house who lives close to the concert venue at The Woodlands.  We spent the day in the pool just relaxing and going down the slide like imbeciles.  Sadly this picture is the only one I have of the day in the pool but my friends are cute so I had to post :)

Laura's Aunt and Uncle surprised us with a limo ride to the concert.  This is no joke.  It was my first limo ride and I felt so spoiled but I will say, it made the night even better!  We listened to Dixie Chicks on the way there (not surprising) and on the way back and I think we probably mixed some Celine Dion in for the ride home.  We were shameless and feeling extra girly since we were all together and I loved every bit of it.

We got tickets on the lawn.  We weren't close but we all really enjoyed it because we were in the open air and had room to lounge and dance when the time called for it.

Seems like an appropriate picture to mention we were all sticky with sweat before the show even started.  That sun was INTENSE.

This concert was the perfect time to feel all the feels and be super cheesy.  We, as humans, can be cheesy creatures and I am ok with that.  The Dixie Chicks started with "Long Way Around" and I KNOW we sang every word from there on out.  As soon as we heard "My friends from high school..." we were sold and realized buying these tickets a few months ago was the right decision.   And I have to admit some of us cried.  What?!?! Yeah, some of us did.

As I said, this weekend was one for the books ladies and gents.  We all went straight home, showered, and went to bed.  I guess we aren't in college anymore.   I feel so lucky to have such good girl friends.  I realize it can be a rarity to keep such good, close friends for this long.  Cheers to my ladies and cheers to the frickin Dixie Chicks who rocked our buns off.

The times, they are a changin'...a style post

When anxiously awaiting your first day at your first real job...doing a style post is always a good idea.  I want everyone to know I felt super weird snapping these photos.  I had a selfie stick and self timer and talk about an out of body experience.  Life changing I tell you.  Onward and upward!!

I'm not usually one for a random purchase.  I go in to a store with an idea in mind and if I don't have an idea or desire for another item in my closet...I usually leave empty handed.  But this experience was different!  I am a changed woman.  This romper spoke to me and I hadn't even gone in looking for clothes.  I just went in to browse around and look at the furniture and shoes at Mint here in Baton Rouge.  I tried it on and thought...this makes sense, so much sense that I bought it.  I know, I'm shocked too.  The times, they are a changing'.

What sparked this sudden change of my shopping style you ask?  I think it was these sleeves.  They have enough pizzaz and sass to speak for themselves and I felt like it was the easiest outfit ever!  You put it on and BAM!  You feel like a goddess.  The print is pretty great too.  I love blue and floral is something I'm wary of...not sure why but something about this floral print was juuuust right for me.

See what I mean? I turn into a new being with it on and I am not complaining.  It is utter ease, utter femininity, and utterly fierce.  Cheers to a new romper that makes me feel like super woman. My romper is from Mint in Baton Rouge but I also found it here.
